This morning felt like my New York life was finally starting to work. The commute (walk) to work felt very smooth: had the iPod going, good music on the shuffle, and I remembered to bring the sunglasses so I didn't squint the whole way. I remembered all my stuff, and I even began to see a few repeat faces, engendering a sense of familiarity. Ah, nice.
Tonight, I am off to Arriba Arriba to meet up with a great guy whom my friends and I met on our trip to Spain this summer. He wanted to introduce me to a bunch of his friends. I am taking all such invitations. It is not like there is a welcome wagon ready and waiting here.
That being said, I am finding New York to be a much friendlier place than I expected (at least so soon). Granted, no one will come up to you on the street and say "Hi there, aren't you from Alabama?" But I have found many folks who are happy to introduce me to the city, or give me tips on where to eat or what to do over the weekend.
Also today, I am starting a widget (above) in which I will give my "How much do I love NYC today" score. It will be a score on a scale of 1 to 10. I thought it would be kind of fun. Plus, if you think my posts are too long, you can quickly take stock of my feelings on the Big Move.
Today, a "7" because of the good walk into work, but not too high because it is still sticky and hot here.
