I have been getting busy at work. I have so much to share, but only time for a few quick bullet points:
1. Went to the Empire State Pride Agenda fund-raiser on Thursday. Incredible. Over 2000 people in a stunning ballroom listening to state politicians talking about the inevitable day when New York will lead the nation in having the first legislatively enacted full marriage law (that is, the courts did not force it on the legislatures). They spoke about how New York has traditionally led the nation in the struggle for civil rights (for women, minorities, labor, etc.). It was inspirational, but I have to admit I really enjoyed hanging with Caroline Rhea, the host of the evening, during the after party.
2. This past weekend, I hung out in the East Village. Honestly, though I had heard about it, I did not really realize just how hopping it is. A bit young of a crowd for me, but fun nonetheless. I will definitely return to The Flea Market Cafe, a great French bistro.
3. The apartment search begins in earnest this week. I have already downgraded my expectations. The word of the moment is "Compromise" as in "To live in the middle of it all in New York, unless you have gobs of money, you have to compromise." The way my co-worker explained it, you have:
(a) Location,
(b) Quality (of finishes, restoration, etc.),
(c) Size, and
(d) Light.
Unless you are an i-Banker or hedge fund guy, it is unlikely you can have all four (at least not alone), so it is a matter of deciding which one you really want.
I have to admit, I never really expected to suddenly consider "Light" as an amenity.
